This training aims to cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences that enrich our workplace and community.
Introduction to Cultural Competence
This training provides a foundational understanding of the essential concepts, skills, knowledge, and mindsets essential for effectively engaging and collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds. It emphasises the importance of cultural awareness, sensitivity, humility, and effective communication. The training also covers a GMS UNITE framework for engaging and communicating with CALD communities.

Delivery Mode
GMS offers diversity awareness and cultural competence training in flexible formats:
Short (1.5-2 hours)
Medium (3-4 hours)
Long (5-6 hours).
Sessions can be tailored to diverse audiences in length, mode, and venue to meet specific needs.
Gippsland Multicultural Services recently delivered a highly engaging cultural competency session for our occupational therapy students at Federation University. The session provided valuable insights into understanding and respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds of individuals in health care. It highlighted the importance of cultural awareness in delivering client-centered care, ensuring that our future health professionals are better equipped to work with diverse populations.
The facilitators were knowledgeable and created an open, interactive environment where students felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences. This hands-on approach made the learning experience both practical and relevant to real-world occupational therapy practice.
Our students left the session feeling more confident in their ability to provide culturally responsive care, which will be crucial in their future roles as occupational therapists.
